Birthstones

Traditional Birthstones

Birthstones are gemstones which are associated with each month of the year. When you give a jewel to your loved one that is set with the birthstone corresponding to that person's birth month, your gift expresses deeper meaning and shows greater thoughtfulness.

The Gregorian calendar has poems matching each month with its birthstone. The stones mentioned on the referred poems are considered the traditional birthstones in the English-speaking societies. In 1870 Tiffany & Co. published for the first time the following poem, which describes the birthstones.

By her who in January was born
No gem save garnets shall be worn
They will ensure her constancy
True friendship and fidelity.
